Summer 2018 - Editors welcome by James Hacon
Welcome to our second edition of Restaurant Marketer & Innovator Quarterly, where sector marketers and innovators share their opinions and views.
While trading has been challenging for many operators during the past quarter there have been some green shoots of opportunity and growth, with the added benefit of World Cup trading and a promising start to the summer via some beautiful balmy weather.
With tough trading it seems marketers and innovators in our sector get even more creative and our campaign trackers have picked up some awesome initiatives during the past few months. Our friends at The Alchemist went barking mad by hosting a dog-blogging event, US burger import Smashburger launched an alternative vegan burger range in the UK, and Vietnamese street food brand Pho took an edgy approach to keeping people signed up to their newsletter by asking customers “not to fooking leave us!”
We have also seen things continue to grow at Restaurant Marketer & Innovator, with a well-attended Marketing Leaders Dinner hosted by the team at Jackson & Rye City. We’ve just arrived back from Copenhagen – organising a workshop there for later in the year – alongside the existing line-up in Dubai, Tallinn and Dublin. The stage is set for our main event, the Restaurant Marketer & Innovator European Summit in London next January, with speakers confirmed from Australia, the US and five European countries. Keep an eye out for the dates and first details, which will be announced shortly.
In this edition our opinion pieces come from some superbly talented leaders from brands that cover digital, content, loyalty, brand training, market research, and launch marketing and we’re very proud a number of them also appeared on our Restaurant Marketer & Innovator 30 Under 30 list for 2018.
